Eraserheads Revisited

In the spirit of the up coming Eheads concert next month, I've decided to share my favorite tunes from the band that catapulted the pinoy rock scene in the early 90's. Yes, the Dawn has always been there and other bands as well, but the Eraserheads paved the way for more pinoy bands, which was then called "alternative", to have more airplay on the radio.

1) Pare Ko - Forget the love songs about unrequited love that you hear on the radio. These future poster boys of pinoy rock said it best: "pinaasa nya lang ako . . . lecheng pagibig 'to oooooh". Yes girls, we do sing Pare Ko whenever we're bummed out about our love life or lack of it. Girls are soooo difficult to understand hehe.

2) With A Smile - My song for Jan (though I don't think she knows it hehe).

3) Magasin - Nice melody. I loved the ending. Don't you just wish that you can brag about an ex-flame who's now in a cover of a magazine(especially of its FHM)? E ano ngayon kung mayaman na sya, wala syang pagmamalaki sakin hehe!

4)Huwag Mo Na Itanong - I think every guy I know would like to sing this to his wife or gf whenever their fighting (especially over trivial matters hehe).

5) Torpedo - Nuff Said!

6) Ligaya - My college days wouldn't be complete without this song. Hirap manligaw e hehe! Whenever I hear this song, I always see my self back in school again. I think this was the first single out from Ultraelectromagneticpop.

7) Para Sa Masa - A tribute to all Eheads fans. I love this song's melody.

8) Kailan - Kanta ng mga preso hehe.

9) Ang Huling El Bimbo - Loved the MTV. I didn't know then that El Bimbo was a dance step, I didn't even know who Paraluman was. Who says you can't learn anything from rock music? Tragic ending though.

Download "Ang Huling El Bimbo" here

10) Minsan - Now I didn't study in a school remotely close to "kalayaan" Q.C., but the message of the song struck me, especially when I started working. Made me miss all my friends with all our good and bad times.

Truth to tell, I'd rather listen to the band's album rather than hear them live. I still think their all talented, but I've seen enough of their performances to have the balls to say that they really don't sound that good when they play live.

I still am a fan though.

i wanna be complete too

Not to sound like Piolo Pascual, Angel Locsin and now Heart Evangelista in their Centrum TVC, I'd like to list down things that I would like to do in my lifetime. Well, I think most of the things here are doable as long as I put my mind in to it and of course, with the help of my family (especially my wifey and daughter) and my friends.

Here it goes (not in any specific order):

1) Teach - I've been told that the best way to learn is to teach. I've wanted to do this for a long time now, but I don't think I have the right temper for it. I don't like repeating myself and when I do get a bit irritated.

2) Produce my own TV show - Who doesn't want to do this? I mean we all have our favorite tv shows and I know we have our own concepts and stories that we want to share. A couch potato's dream!

3) Produce a benefit concert for the less fortunate - I think this is fulfilling. Helping others is a big thing. Music should be harnessed to help people out.

4) Explore the Philippines - Every Filipino should do this.

5) Explore the rest of the world - Why not? If God permits, I'd like to explore the rest of the world with my family.

6) Have my own business - A Bar & Resto? Comic book store? Even my own production company! The possibilities are endless!

7) Learn how to create a website from scratch - Since I started blogging, I've been interested in this. I have to ask someone I know to teach me this. :-)

8) Record my own album - If Steven Seagal can do it, why can't I? Hell, I've written songs before, and I think that's half the battle already.

9) Learn a martial art - Judo anyone? hehe

10) Write a book (or comic book) - One of my long time dreams. I'm just waiting for the time and inspiration to do it (yeah right! hehe).

With or without vitamins (quite frankly, Centrum makes me sleepy that's why I stopped taking it), I'd like to do these things.

I think I'm ready. Game!

turn back time

Sometimes, I miss the times when I didn't have a care in the world. Sometimes I just stop and think of the times when I was younger, like when I was still in high school, doing things that I wanted to do, with no responsibilities to think about except for the daily pressure of school work.

I remember that whenever I arrive from school, I'd buy a Coke 500 and 2 packs of Hansel Biscuits. I'd eat it in front of the store or sometimes I'd meet up with my friends at the basketball court and finish off my merienda there. I also used to play basketball but I was never really into it as I am today (watching lang on tv). Truth to tell, I'd rather read my comic books, practice playing the guitar or play Dungeons and Dragons than play ball. I'm such a nerd! Hehe

Our barkada called ourselves B.O.N.E.S otherwise known as Brotherhood Of Nasty Elite Syndicates.Sounds cheezy I know but hey, what are you going to do, right? We would always meet up late in the afternoon until evening and sometimes even until after dinner. During summers, we would play basketball from 4pm until late in the evening. We even called our teams BONES! Sadly, we never won a championship as a team but we always brought the ladies each game. Sometimes, people in the neighborhood would say: "kayong mga bones, bihira naaman kayo manalo,e!" to which our reply would be "ok lang, samin naman yung mga chicks!" which was true.

And then there was our evening guitar jam. I actually learned how to play guitar by reading song-hits magazines. I always wanted to learn things by myself so even though my dad knew how to play, I didn't ask him to teach me. I didn't even have my own guitar back then. I had to borrow from my friends.

School was always enjoyable. I was never a straight A student but I was never dumb either. I was just coasting and I never really regretted being that way. Like all students, the only reason why I went to school was because I had friends there. Makes me wonder how some loner classmates of mine ever survived school.

I have a lot of wonderful memories. Remembering those days can really put a smile on my face sometimes. I'd like to think that I'm the same person I was before, although much more experienced in the ways of the world.

I'm still me . . . just a lot more cooler hehe!

All grown up

I didn't realize that I've grown up until the day we found out that we were pregnant. You see, even when we got married, we still lived a carefree life. We were always out on a date, out of town trips, food trip and whatever caught our fancy. We really enjoyed ourselves. Just like when we were in college.

Now things are a bit different. With Sophie now completing our family of three, all our decisions are now calculated, short of doing a cost and benefit analysis or a profit and loss sensitivity analysis. We've now come to realize that everything that we are doing now could affect the future of our family and we should be extra careful. After one year and six months, we've already adjusted and now things are going rather smoothly.

A few years back, I never imagined myself being a father. Now I'm a proud daddy who sings Barney songs. I wonder what my "younger me" would say if he knew that Jan and I would have a daughter?

Just last week, we made another grown-up decision. We decided to purchase property somewhere in QC. That was a big step that I personally didn't want to take at that time. I wanted everything especially finances to be in order. But Jan, being her usual solid-as-a-rock-lakas-ng-loob-kaya-natin-yan self, really wanted to take advantage of the opportunity, so we pushed some numbers and it turns out with some (a lot!) of sacrifices the we can afford it (barley!). I'm not a pessimist, in fact I'm very optimistic about everything. But I also want to be realistic.

I never imagined making that grown-up move at this time and right now, but I'm glad we did it. Making that decision will help put other things in motion that will also help us in the long run. Imagine, if we waited for another year or two, it would have caused financial complications because of Sophie's schooling, or because the price of the property would have doubled. Usapang grown-up!

Oh my, I feel all grown up now. I really admire Jan for pushing us to do this. Sometimes we all need a little push for us to move on and grow as people.

Scary yet exciting!

turning japanese

My hats of to the Japanese! These people, who's country was devastated during the last world war, has amazingly developed into a economic superpower faster than a speeding bullet. I can't imagine how they did this but they did. If there's one word to describe the Japanese people, it would be the word: DISCIPLINE. They're disciplined in their work. I have some Japanes friends, and I know that they really take everything they do seriously. They will go through lengths just to get what they want to achieve.

They work hard, and they play hard too. Maybe we can learn a thing or two from them. Watch these videos and see how they work very hard.

See how these people take everything seriously? Hehe

Survey

Napagtripan ko lang gumawa ng survey sa blog ko. Every week, I'll come out with a new survey about anything and everything. Sana mag enjoy kayo sa mga questions sa survey ko at sagutan nyo. Then I'll put the results of each question on my page layout.

Parang sobrang dami nagbabasa nag blog ko a! Hehe!

:-)

50th post and still loving it!

This is my 50th post. For the past few days, I've been thinking about a topic for this milestone. I never thought I'd reach this far this quickly, almost writing once every two days. For many of us bloggers, writing every other day may not be a big deal because they write every day or even more than once a day. But to me, its something. You see, a few months ago, I never saw myself doing this but now I'm glad that I did. As Vayie (my blog buddy and elementary batchmate) once said, "it is therapeutic". She's right. I found writing to be my respite from the pressures of work and even family matters.

And why not? Where else can you rant, rave and even make fun of yourself and others all at the same time, without sounding like a lunatic? In this virtual world that we blog in, I can say whatever I want to say without thinking about what others will think.

In life, we may find that we have many masters, but here:

I am the master of my blog.

I am the master of my world.

I am the master of my universe.

I may sound like someone who doesn't have any control of his life. Quite the opposite actually, but of course there are some things that we cannot control. That's the beauty of blogging. Everything is under the blogger's control.

I won't stop on my 50th post. I've decided to continue blogging about anything that fancies me and I hope some people would find whatever I put here interesting too.

If not, oks lang :-)

Thanks to all of you who have read and commented on my blog! Cheers!

Office Outing

I have never been active in company outings. I've never attended one in my two previous companies (except for the annual planning sessions). I always thought that it's always better to spend some time with family and friends rather than the people whom I spend my time every working day. Sounds logical if you ask me.

For the first time in my 10 year career, I finally agreed to go an outing. One, because I x-dealed the venue of the outing and two, because most of my office friends were going. Heck, this may be the first and last outing that I'll ever attend in my present work, so why not just enjoy it?

I'm glad I did.

I enjoyed out of time trip. Most of us work with each other's department on a daily basis and it was a good thing that we spent some time not talking about work . . . that much. There was never a dull moment; from the time we left the office until the time we got back.

The weather was fine. I was actually afraid that it might rain last Friday since it was raining hard the day before. Good thing it didn't. We hit the beach as soon as we got the venue even when most of us were tired from the 4-hour trip.

Our group was divided into 3:

The Bagets - obviously the young people in our group with an average age of 25 (or younger I think)
The Gboys - the men in the group who have experienced Gout pains (hindi ako kasama dito pero sabi nila hintayin ko daw). Mas ka jamming ko itong mga 'to kasi mas closer mga age namin.
The Mancom - the senior officers of the group (big bosses)

Of course there were some people who fell in between the cracks (like me hehe) who jived with everyone.

When the evening came, the Bagets were swimming in the pool, the Gboys were playing billiards, the Mancom were having their Mancom (hehe) and I was going from one group to another in my quest to entice everyone to the idea of drinking alcohol under the stars (which I think was the right thing to do). Good thing the Bagets had some Tequila so I started filling the shot glasses. After a while I ordered some beer and we transferred from the pool side to the beach.

The beach is where the party started. We brought a mini-component and I started playing Marley tunes and other reggae cds. Reggae music, which in my opinion, is best when listened to with the sound of the waves and under the moon and the stars.

Being the social person that I am (especially with the influence of alcohol), I went from one group to another enjoying their company. Everybody enjoyed the night and I know that it will be one of the most memorable nights that we will have as a group.

Here are some pics of our beach party:

Leslie, Ferlin, Eric F, Nancy and Dionna

Ate Nancy, Shy, Che, Tita Susan and Ferlin (kalahati lang) at the back: Roy and Erwin (usapang lasing)

Pool side peeps: Jun, Eric P, Eric F, Roy, Me, Ate Nancy, Shy, Che, Nica, Ellen and Arlene

Shy: Akin nalang 'to a! (center)
Nica: Sa'yo na basta akin 'tong chips! (right)
Ate Nancy: Takaw nitong mga 'to! (left)

Di pa kami bangag!

Tagal naman ma-todas nito! (Ang mag amo'ng sira ulo, Me and Toni)

Ummm! Buhay ka pa a!

My next victim!

The TALIKOGENICS: Me, Eric P, Willy, Erwin and Roy

I went to the cottage at around 430am with only 3 of us left in the beach (but not without dipping in the pool for almost an hour). The next day some of the peeps went snorkeling and diving. I swam in the pool and the beach. Snorkeling and diving was never my thing although I would like to try out diving.

Morning Swim

The Boys

Kaltok moments:

Opismeyt 1(who went diving): "Pare, may nakita akong 2 isda, ang laki! Tinitignan ko nga tapos nilapitan ko. Di umalis pare! Ang tapang!"

Opismeyt 2 (who didn't go snorkeling or diving):" Oo nga, tapang nun a! Di natakot. Di tumakbo."

The Pakarazzi: "Papano tatakbo yun e walang paa yun. Hehe"

Opismeyt 2: "Langya 'to hiniritan pa ko."

Haha!

**********
I made the room assignments . . .

The Pakarazzi: "O, yung mga room assignments, di ko pinag sama-sama mga Gboys a.

Gboy: "Bakit?"

The Pakarazzi: "E pano kung magka-sunog? E di lahat kayo di nakatakas dahil masakit paa nyo. Walang aakay sa inyo!"

Gboy: "Langya ka. Hayup!"

Bwehehe!

Everyone went home tired the next day, but with smiles on their faces.

Its nice to have an activity like this once in a while. Officemates can develop new friendships and renew old ones. Now they're planning for another one. Mukhang di magkakasawaan mga tao dito!

pre company outing blog

I'm going to Batangas today for our company outing at the Blue Coral Resort (Laiya). I brought a book to read, some cd's and my trusty celfone. I was itching to bring the laptop so I can surf and maybe blog, but I chose not to so I can enjoy the beach and the company of my officemates. I've been addicted to the web for some time now that I think I'll be having withdrawal symptoms if when I'm at the beach. Hehe

I'm feeling it now while I'm writing this. No meebo, no bloghopping, no nba.com, no friendster, no marvel.com, no yahoo . . . haay . .

NOTE TO SELF: MAKAKAGAMIT KA NAMAN NG COMPUTER PAG UWI MO BUKAS KAYA WAG KANG MAG-INARTE! (Hehe)

But I do enjoy going to the beach. Jan and I are both beach bums. Its just that sometimes, its hard to get myself away from the net. Although, every weekend, I do my best to stay away from it so I can spend more time with Jan and Sophie.

I know this feeling of internet "withdrawal" will be relieved by only one thing: BEER! Woohoo! Now I'm really looking forward to drinking beer on th beach with some good old reggae music at the background. I brought a Bob Marley Cd and other local reggae tunes.

******************

Anyway, when I left home, Sophie was her usual self and wanted to come with us. I said that I'll be back tomorrow and that she should be a good girl while I'm away. Jan's going to a wedding tomorrow so Sophie will be alone with her yaya again on a weekend. I think, even as young as she is, she also looks forward to the weekend because she knows that she'll spend 2 whole days with her mommy and daddy, and most of the time, we go out of the house, usually going to malls, which she enjoys immensely. I'm a bit sad because I miss her already and because both Jan and I can't spend much time with her tomorrow. I'm sure she'll look for us and ask here yaya to call us on the cel, like she always does whenever Jan or I'm not home yet. She picks up our cel (which means she want's us to call) and says "mommy ...mommy" whenever Jan's not yet home, or "daddy...daddy" whenever I'm not yet home. Smart kid.

Bawi nalang kami ni mommy Sophie!

Tagal naman ng mga kasama ko . . . di pa kami umaalis hehe

effects of alcohol

I'm posting a video of my brother Chux with his friends, dancing to some videoke singing. Now I don't know how much alcohol they've taken in, but they seem more than tipsy to me. I would never dance to the tune of "ALWAYS" by Erasure, although I never dance at all, but that's beside the point! Hehe.

Anyway, by brother's the guy with the long hair and red shorts :-)

Dancing to the tune of ALWAYS

YMCA! Di marunong mag spell si Chux hehe

THE ZEPHYR SONG . . . this song will never be the same to me again . . . hehe

Moral Lesson: Don't drink too much hehe!

I'm going out of town tomorrow for a company outing. Sana hindi rin ako malasing at sumayaw hehe!

more people should be like this . . .

Got this from ESPN's website:
WASHINGTON --
Gilbert Arenas is accepting less money from the Washington Wizards, invoking an attitude far, far removed from the world of his working-class fans.

"What can I do for my family with $127 million that I can't do with $111 million?" he told The Washington Post.

The unpredictable three-time All-Star point guard, in vintage Agent Zero fashion, told the Post and the
Washington Times on Thursday that he has agreed to re-sign for $111 million over six years, considerably less than the maximum deal he said the Wizards offered him when the free agency period began on Tuesday.

"I'm basically giving back $16 million," Arenas told the Washington Times. "This is in line with what I've been saying the whole time. You see players take max deals and they financially bind their teams. I don't wanna be one of those players and three years down the road your team is strapped and can't do anything about it."

Arenas became a free agent after opting out of the final year of his six-year, $65 million contract at the end of last season. He initially said he was opting out to receive a max contract, but he later indicated he would be flexible in negotiations.

**************************

Gilbert Arenas was here last week for an Addidas tour. I was never a fan but I know that he's a good player. I think he wasn't even drafted in the NBA and now here he is, a three time NBA All Star. In professional sports, good players can earn more than what they can spend in 10 lifetimes. I can't even imagine what I'd do with all that money if it was given to me.

Arenas' sacrifice for the good of the team is really very admirable. He wanted to have a good team next season so he "contributed" his share so that his team could pay for better players. He's really taking one for the team.

In today's greedy world, we seldom hear of stories like this and whenever we do, it's always the "small guy" who does the good deed: Taxi driver returning a bag left by a passenger or a sidewalk vendor returning a wallet full of money to its rightful owner. Whenever there are powerful people doing something good, rest assured that there will always be press people covering the event. We even see the name of the politicians, as well as their pictures in all of their projects, as if their constituents owe them anything.

I think the world needs more people who thinks of others before themselves. If we have more people like this, maybe most of the world's problems would become easier to solve, making life for everyone a lot more easier.

Haring Solomon

Hehe)

Last Sunday, Jan, Sophie and I had dinner at the Shakey's near our place. It seems that we all love Strawberry Milkshake and here are the pics to prove it:

something worth pondering

This article was e-mailed to me by my buddy Jeff and I just want to share it with all of you. Thanks for the e-mail Jeff!

****************

An Insight Into Decision Making

A group of children were playing near two railway tracks, one still in use while the other unused. Only one child played on the unused track,
and the rest of the children on the operational track.

The train is coming, and you are just beside the track interchange, who happened to have the chance to change the course of the train.
You can make the train change its course to the unused track and save most of the children.

However, that would also mean the lone child playing by the unused track would be sacrificed. Or would you rather let the train go its way?

Let's take a pause to think what kind of decision we could make...............

Most people might choose to divert the course of the train, and sacrifice only one child. Because to save most of the children at the expense of only one child was rational decision most people would make, morally and emotionally.
But, have you ever thought that the child choosing to play on the disused track had in fact made the right decision to play at a safe place?

Nevertheless, he had to be sacrificed because of his ignorant friends who chose to play where the danger was.

This kind of dilemma happens around us everyday. In the office, community, in politics and especially in a democratic society, the minority is often sacrificed for the interest of the majority, no matter how foolish or ignorant the majority are, and how farsighted and knowledgeable the minority are. The child who chose not to play with the rest on the operational track was sidelined. And in the case he was sacrificed, no one would shed a tear for him.

The great critic Leo Velski Julian who told the story, said he would not try to change the course of the train because he believed that the kids playing on the operational track should have known very well that track was still in use, and that they should have run away if they heard the train's sirens.

If the train was diverted, that lone child would definitely die because he never thought the train could come over to that track!

Moreover, that track was not in use probably because the track was not safe. If the train was diverted to the track, we could put the lives of all passengers on board at stake! And in the attempt to save a few kids by sacrificing one child, you might end up sacrificing hundreds of people to save these few kids.

While we are all aware that life is full of tough decisions that need to be made, we may not realize that hasty decisions may not always be the right one.

"Remember that what's right isn't always popular... and what's popular isn't always right."

****************

I believe in what the article says. Sometimes, making the right decision doesn't mean that everyone will agree with it. That's why I take time whenever I need to make important decisions. There are some situations when we make decisions to help or protect our family, friends and officemates. Sometimes, we make decisions even when we know that it's wrong. But there are times when you really have to make the right decision even if the consequence will affect someone close to you. Sometimes, we just have to bite the bullet and do what is right.

Sophie News

I spent the whole day at home yesterday since it was Pasig Day and it was a non-working holiday for us Pasig based worker ants. I really wanted to stay at home to spend time with my unica hija. We watched 3 DVDs of Barney and she was, as usual dancing to the purple dinosaur's tunes. I even had LSS for MR. SUN and BUTTERFLY, BUTTERFLY (not good I tell you). Sophie actually knows the hand gestures for the songs (okay, okay, Iknow some of them too . . .).

Sayang, di ko nakuhanan n
g video.

Anyway, there's one good thing, no, no, VERY GOOD thing that happened yesterday: Sophie made wiwi in the toilet already! She said wiwi and then pointed to her diaper, her signal to have it removed. So her Yaya removed her diaper and then she sat on the toilet (using her potty trainer toilet seat). She made wiwi!

Now she wants to go to the toilet every time she needs to pee (when she's awake of course). She did it this morning!

My baby's growing up already. She's only one and a half years old and she knows how to pee in the toilet already! I'm very, VERY excited!

I'm one proud Daddy! I can hear may wife now saying: "Ang OA mo naman!"

COMING VERY SOON: Sophie making poopoo in the toilet hehe!

all about the weekend

My weekend started early. Unlike most Saturdays, I woke up early at around 8am. We had to attend this Pag-Ibig seminar at GMA7 for employees at 10am. We wanted to attend because we've been planning to buy our own house or condo for the longest time now and we wanted to know the requirements for a housing loan. By the way, before one can take a loan, it was a prerequisite to attend the seminar. So we really didn't have any choice.

When we got there, the room where they were conducting the seminar was packed with people. I didn't go in and I just stayed by the door. Jan went inside and found one vacant seat. The seminar was done by around 12. They were serving lunch but we opted to eat out. We just took 2 bottles of C2 Tea.

I forgot the name of the place in Tomas Morato where we ate but the restaurant was serving Persian food like Mr. Kebab. It was delicious and relatively cheap. One meal costs around P70 - P90. I ordered the ground beef with curry (forgot what its called) and Jan ordered beef kebab. She also ordered bean paste (forgot what its called again . . .) and that thin bread that comes with it (man, I'm so bad with foreign sounding names). Bottom line . . . it was a god meal.

After lunch, we went to Quezon Ave for the Universal Records CC / DVD sale. We missed it last year and we didn't want to miss it this year (by the way, the sale will be until the second week of July. Fridays to Sundays only. They're located at Quezon Ave beside the Smart Wireless Building, before examiner st. I think). When we went in the store, there weren't much people around. That was good for us because it wouldn't be a hassle to go around and look for CDs.

We bought the complete DVD collection of Shrek for P500 and two more dvds: Far and Away and 12 Monkeys for only P170 (buy one take one). We also bought of cds of: Earth Wind and Fire (2), Michael Buble', Saigon Kick, Rey Charles, Norah Jones, Doobie Brothers, Air Supply, Beasty Boyz, Jay-Z, Alice Cooper, Peter Cetera and Ringo Star. There were a lot more but we didn't bring enough cash (actually, I didn't have enough cash, since pay day was Monday and this was the third weekend after our last payday hehe). I'm planning to go back to buy some more if time permits.

Cds were as cheap as P20! I saw a William Hung CD sold for P20. Damn! I should have bought it!

I saw a cassette tape of Bob Carlisle: Butterfly Kisses which was sold for P10 only. I naturally bought it hehe.

We went home at around 3pm. We wanted to go home early to spend time with Sophie, and also to test the stuff that we bought.

Sunday, as everyone knows, was the day Pacman would fight his would-be-punching-bag Diaz so we spent the whole morning waiting for the fight. I went on-line at 11 am and my officemate told me through YM that Pacman won via knock out in the 9th round.

Okaaay . . .

So I just watched the fight to see how he knocked out Diaz.

We went to Shangri-La mall in the afternoon. We wanted to see if the ASUS laptop that Smart was giving away for their retention promo is still available. Jan's account was already due for the retention promo and we really wanted to get the laptop. When we got there, the CSR said that the laptop has been out of stock for a month and they stopped taking reservations for it. So we took the next best thing that was available: a Sony Ericsson K770i.

After going to Smart, we went to the carousel area. Now Sophie was very sleepy by this time, but when she saw a carousel she literally said "waaaaw . . oohh . . . oohh" while pointing the it. She wanted to ride the carousel so we went in there with Jan.

I wanted to use the camera of our new phone so I placed my sim card in the phone while we were ordering food at Green Tomato. Here are some pics:

I'm looking forward to next weekend already!
